We’re doing this trial to test an experimental new medicine for treating cognitive decline or impairment in brain disorders. The study medicine acts at sites in the brain called ‘TrkB receptors’. By acting on these sites, we aim to restore healthy brain cell function and communication, improving patients’ lives. We’re conducting this study in healthy volunteers to see if a single dose causes any side effects when taken by mouth, how much of the medicine (and its breakdown products) enters the blood and urine, how long it takes the body to remove it, and whether eating food changes how well the medicine is absorbed into the bloodstream.

In the UK, about 1 in 6 people have a brain disorder. Types of brain disorders include AD, which affects 60 million people worldwide, and schizophrenia, which affects 24 million people worldwide. Brain disorders affect the brain and include a wide range of symptoms, but people with brain disorders often have cognitive decline or impairment. People with cognitive decline can experience problems with short term memory, planning, language, and/or attention.

You’ll take your dose of trial medicine by mouth, as capsules
Schedule
The study is scheduled to begin in July 2026.
- During the 4 weeks before you start the study, we’ll screen you to see if you’re suitable
- You’ll have 1 or 2 sessions depending on your group. Each session consists in 3 days and 2 nights’ residence on the ward
- You’ll return to the ward about 1 week after we’ve discharged you, for a final check-up. If you do Session 2, you’ll have a follow-up visit about 1 week after each session

You’ll receive £1,250 if you take part in one session, or at least £2,315 if you complete two sessions.
Inclusion criteria:
You must:
- be a healthy man or woman, aged 18 to 55
- be willing to eat a fatty breakfast containing eggs and dairy
- be willing to use contraception
- be registered with a GP in the UK
Exclusion criteria
You must not:
- use regular medication
- smoke more than 2 cigarettes a week or use a vaping device more than twice in a week
- have had a tattoo or piercing in the past 3 months or plan to do so during the study
