A study investigating an experimental new medicine for treating various immune system diseases.
Join our clinical trial
We’re doing this trial to find out the side effects and blood levels of the trial medicine in healthy participants. We also want to find out how the trial medicine affects the immune system. The trial medicine is a type of drug called a ‘biologic’, and it works by blocking multiple pathways to stop the production of antibodies, including pathogenic antibodies, and reduce inflammation.
Why participate?
If you take part in this trial you’ll help us to develop a new medication for treating autoimmune diseases caused by pathogenic antibodies, such as Berger’s disease (caused by build-up of faulty antibodies in the kidney), or idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (autoimmune diseases which causes muscle weakness and inflammation). The trial includes bloods samples for ‘biomarkers’ which are substances (such as RNA and proteins) that may be linked to a disease or to the way the body handles and responds to the trial medicine. Capturing this information may help to advance future science research and public health approaches.

Delivery method
You’ll take a single dose of trial medicine by injection under the skin of your abdomen.
Schedule
During the 6 weeks before you start the trial, we’ll screen you to see if you’re suitable.
You’ll receive the trial medicine on the ward. You’ll stay on the ward for 9 days and 8 nights in a row. Then you’ll be discharged.
You’ll return to the ward on 9 occasions for short outpatient visits.
The planned admission dates are:

Inclusion criteria
You must:
- be a healthy man or woman, aged 18 to 65
- weight at least 50 kg
- have a body mass index (BMI) between 18 and 32
- if you’re a woman of child-bearing potential, be willing to use contraception
- have had a tetanus vaccination
Exclusion criteria
You must not:
- have smoked in the last year
- be a professional at higher risk of infectious diseases or handle infectious agents (bacteria or viruses) in your job
- have any liver or immune system disorders
- have travelled to endemic areas (countries where diseases such as malaria or tuberculosis are a travel risk) in the last 6 months, or plan to do so during the trial
- have a history of unexplained, recurring infections, or infections needing treatment with certain antibiotics in the last 3 months
