A study investigating an experimental new medicine for treating macular degeneration (AMD)
Join our clinical trial
We’re doing this trial to test an experimental new medicine that is being developed to treat macular degeneration. The aim of the study is to find out what effects, if any, the medicine has in healthy participants. This includes looking at any side effects, how much of the study medicine gets into the bloodstream, how long takes the body to get rid of it, how the immune system responds, and how it affects certain proteins in the blood.
Why participate?
If you take part in this trial, you will be helping medical research – you will help us develop a potential new treatment for macular degeneration. Macular degeneration happens when the central part of your eye (the macula) becomes damaged over time. The study medicine is designed to help regulate a part of your immune system called the complement system, which helps your body fight infections. Sometimes, this system can become overactive, create an imbalance between certain proteins, and starts to damage healthy tissue in the eye leading to macular degeneration. The study medicine works by reducing certain proteins that may contribute to this imbalance, helping to protect the eye.

Delivery method
You will take a single dose of the trial medicine by injection under the skin in your stomach (avoiding the area around the belly button), thigh, or the side or back of your upper arm.
Schedule
- You will have a screening visit within 9 weeks before you take the study medication to check if you are suitable.
- You will stay on the ward for 4 days and 3 nights in a row. Then you will leave the ward.
- You will make at least 4 outpatient visits in the 3 months after your dose.
- If you receive the study medicine, you will make 5 additional outpatient safety visits over the following 9 months. If you receive a placebo, you don’t need these extra visits, and your participation will end 3 months after your dose.
The planned admission dates are:
- 29 Jun 2026
- 03 Aug 2026
- 07 Sep 2026
